_ _ _ _ _ is the vine, a scriptural paraphrase...

(the following is my own paraphrase, I mostly used a few other English translations to derive this paraphrase. In the weeks to come, if time permits I will try to revise this after looking at some biblical/classical Greek and Hebrew as well.)

John 15:1–11

1. Jesus is the ultimate vine plant and the heavenly Father is like a gardener.

2. Every branch sprouted out of Christ that does not yield fruit, God, the Father will graft out. The branches that bear fruit are pruned to facilitate more growth.

3. You are sanctified by the word Jesus spoke to you.

4. Abide in Christ and in turn Jesus abides in you. Branches will only grow fruit while still connected to the vine. Likewise, you will bear fruit if you remain connected to the vine, that is Jesus.

5. Jesus is the vine of which you and I are like the branches. A person that remains connected to Jesus will bear much fruit. Without Jesus, our deeds are fruitless.

6. If we do not remain connected to Jesus, it is unfruitful. We will be like cast off branches and dry up; the branches will be gathered and burned.

7. If we remain connected to Jesus and Jesus' words are kept within us, we can ask for anything to be granted.

8. Producing fruit is evidence of being Christ's disciples and brings great glory to the heavenly father.

9. Jesus loves us like the Father loves him, we should remain in Christ's love.

10. If we keep and obey Jesus' commandments, we remain in his love; following in Christ's example of obeying the Father's commandments and being in his love.

11. Jesus tells us these things so that we will be complete having been filled with his joy.
